About the Role:
As Youth Development and Engagement Team Lead, you will:
- Supervise, coach, and lead a team of support staff in delivering high-quality, emotionally attuned care.
- Provide day-to-day line management, including staff supervision, shift oversight, performance monitoring, and supporting staff development
- Lead the planning and coordination of keywork sessions, independence skills training, and educational engagement.
- Design and deliver creative and practical life skills programmes that promote confidence, independence, and wellbeing.
- Oversee structured recreational, enrichment, and cultural activities for young people.
- Act as the emotional wellbeing and behaviour support lead in the home, ensuring trauma-informed, restorative practices are at the heart of daily care.
- Build strong partnerships with families, schools, therapists, and external agencies.
- Champion youth voice and participation across the home and within planning processes.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Practice & Care Delivery:
- Leading keywork systems, ensuring sessions are purposeful, recorded, and outcome-focused
- Promoting emotional and social development through consistent routines, PACE-informed relational practice, and positive reinforcement
- Managing behavioural challenges with empathy, structure, and clear boundaries
- Supporting the development and review of outcome-focused support and risk management plans
Leadership & Line Management:
- Conducting regular supervisions, informal check-ins, and performance reviews for staff
- Supporting induction, probation, and ongoing development of team members
- Leading reflective practice sessions and modelling high standards of care
- Addressing performance concerns promptly and escalating where required
Health & Safety / Compliance:
- Completing and overseeing daily and weekly Health & Safety checks (fire safety, room checks, environmental safety, maintenance reporting)
- Ensuring compliance with all safeguarding procedures, risk assessments, and incident reporting requirements
- Maintaining accurate, timely, and high-quality records in line with regulatory expectations
Quality Assurance & Auditing:
- Completing internal audits (daily, weekly, and monthly) across areas such as H&S, safeguarding records, keywork, and care planning
- Monitoring staff recording and practice to ensure consistency and quality
- Supporting management with Reg 44/45 readiness and continuous service improvement
- Identifying areas for development and implementing improvements in practice
Partnership & Multi-Agency Working:
- Attending and contributing to multi-agency meetings (PEPs, reviews, strategy meetings)
- Maintaining effective communication with social workers, virtual schools, and other professionals
- Advocating for young people to ensure their needs are understood and met
Essential Criteria:
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 (or equivalent) in Children and Young People Workforce or equivalent qualification or in progress.
- At least 2 years' experience supporting young people in residential, youth work, or education settings
- Experience delivering structured keywork, life skills, or educational support
- Experience supporting or supervising staff (formal or informal leadership)
- Strong knowledge of trauma-informed practice and youth development
- Excellent communication, organisation, and emotional intelligence
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain)
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and occasional sleep-ins
- Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of service delivery.
- Willing to travel to our homes across South London and the surrounding areas.
Desirable:
- Supervisory or mentoring experience in a care setting
- Relevant level 4 qualification or willingness to work towards one
- Full UK Driving Licence
- CPD in youth work, mental health, education support, or restorative practice
Job Types: Permanent.
Pay: From £30,000 - £33,000 DoE.
